Choosing A Home Inspector
There are several things to consider when choosing a home inspector: Accreditation is key and critical in selecting a home inspector. The home inspector you select should be an accredited R. H. I. (Registered Home Inspector) with the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors.
(OAHI) R.H.I members are persons who: complete all OAHI entrance requirements, obtain and maintain mandatory insurance coverage, and remain members in good standing which includes obtaining the required number of Continuing Education Units (CEU's), as per the Bylaws. RHI members must comply with the OAHI Standards of Practice and Conflict of Interest Guidelines. At Home Building Inspection Services has RHI certification (RHI #000159).
Relevant experience is key and critical in selecting a home inspector. Sometimes education is not enough! Hands on experience is another must when selecting a home inspector. Ask them to show you a listing of their inspection "projects" and what experience they bring to your home inspection. At Home Building Inspection Services' founder, John Peters, brings a wealth of experience to your home inspection including 25 years with the Oakville Department, 10 of which were spent conducting building inspections! Recent client referrals. Please always ask your building inspector for recent client referrals and ask for more than one. At Home Building Inspection Services is pleased to have placed recent referrals right on our web site for your convenience! Click here to read our testimonials.
Remember to check:
- Do you receive your report at the end of the inspection?
- Does the inspector take the time to review the report with you and go over any significant cost items?
- Will the inspector be available for free telephone consultation after your inspection?
